I liked the pilings in the FG and wanted to include them -but some may not.

I met up with Scott Vincent last evening to shoot the NYC Skyline. We had a lot of fun and we were able to create some very nice images. Here are a few of mine from the shoot. BTW Scott and I will be offering a couple of NYC Skyline Workshops with one titled “The Moon Over Manhattan”. We have timed this workshop to coincide with the moon rising against the spectacular skyline and right past the Empire State Building!! From Scott “There’s actually a knack to it and some tricks and tips that aren’t obvious. I’ve been doing NYC skyline for years, but mostly with film – so one learns well after lots of mistakes!!” Scott has been published nationally including magazine covers and newspaper cover photographs. Most recently he’s had 2 images in the final round for the 2010 BBC Natural History Awards and in the 2010 Nature’s Best Awards he had 2 images in final round with 1 image in the Highly Honored category that is published in the Natures Best Winter 2010 issue. He has also had 2 images in the final round for the 2011 Natures Best Backyard Awards.
We should have plenty of chances for straight shots, HDR’s, Zoom Blurs, stitched panoramas and more. The colors changes as the photo shoot continues through the evening making it easy to capture a great variety of color and lighting. We will be offering 2 separate workshop dates May 15th which is a Sunday evening for the Moon Over Manhattan Workshop and Saturday August 6th with a rain date of August 7th for the Manhattan Skyline Workshop. For more information check out my workshop page.
Just for fun, I added a zoom blur in Photoshop and a texture overlay along with an illustrated effect.
Manhattan Mini-World
I like the pilings, Denise. It breaks up an otherwise rather large expanse of foreground. I do somehow wish they were actually bigger and even more prominent.
Mary, Thanks, I think if they were bigger I would like them even more.
I like the way the pilings balance the red reflection in the water on the other side of the frame. My fave is the fish eye grunge; you kill two birds with one stone with that one!
Really nice work Denise. The fish eye worked well, and I like how the HDR pano turned out. Looking forward to the “Moon over Manhattan” workshop in May for more spectacular images!
Very nice Denise…the pilings in the foreground add some perspective to the beautiful image of the NYC skyline.
Artie, I appreciate your comments as always. I think you are right about the balance and the 2 birds comment- too funny!
Scott, It should be a great workshop. I really had a lot of fun there and the possibilities are endless!!
Richard, Thank you very much for the kind words. I’m glad that you like the pilings too!!
Denise, all are wonderful, hard to pick a fav. Very, very nice work
Andrew, I appreciate the kind words. Thanks.
