I returned to Longwood Gardens one more time before the end of their Liytopia Display. This time with Arthur Morris and Mike and Karen Lotitio. It was a lovely morning and the gardens were brimming with every color Lily imaginable.
Slight De-focused Lily ~ I created this image in-camera the same way I did my Iris from Chanticleer that I loved so much. This is full frame and I spent a few minutes carefully framing the image before I de-focused it. Hand held with the Canon 1D Mark III and the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens.

Calla Lily, this crop may not appeal to some but I liked the way it implied a heart shape ~ Canon 1D Mark III and the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens.

Wonderful! The first one, especially. The pink and green combination is one of my weaknesses, anyway. In this case, the stronger visual weight of the green color makes a perfect base. I like the way the shades of pink carry all the way to the bottom. When my eyes follow them all the way down, the shapes of the stem and leaves carry them right back to the top for another look. Very well crafted.
Thank you very much Dennis, Sometimes everything just comes together – it’s one of my all time favorites.
That lily display was amazing and you made lots of wonderful images; you did way, way better than I did; that’s why you are the Flower Queen. I like them all, esp. the last two.
Lily images are exquisite. I bow before the “Flower Queen”.
That first lily image is stunning, Denise! I like the second Calla image as well; it’s different than what one usually sees.
I still haven’t made “photographic friends” with oriental lilies. Don’t know why…I love them, just can’t get an image that I like.
Amal, You are too kind. Thank you.
Mary, I usually like the backside or profile view myself for lillies but I can be drawn into their deep centers very easily.
I completely agree with Dennis B. That top image is exquisite. Gorgeous colors, light, composition. The slight blur is perfect. I’m amazed that you hand-held the camera.
Thanks Anita, The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens is wonderful. I usually work with the same lens but w/o Image Stabilization. I tried really hard to note the difference between using IS and not while hand holding and the results were very similar IMO but I did have a sense of confidence using the one with IS.
Denise, these are all lovely blossoms. Quite like the first one and the fractalius one as well!
Thanks Andrew, I appreciate it!
