I went for a walk through Allaire State Park yesterday afternoon. When I left my house it was overcast with thick clouds but by the time I got to the park it was bright and sunny. Go figure??!! I decided to make the best of my walk and photographs. I saw this park bench and decided to create a rainy afternoon look. With a layer mask I revealed the plaque. I used Topaz B&W Effects to convert this image and to create the mood. I applied a soft blur vignette in Nik Color Efex and added some “fake rain”. I wanted the rain to be subtle but still visible. I would love to hear what feelings or thoughts you have towards this image. Can you think of a good title for the image? Thanks :)

I love the image! Rain, however doesn’t occur to me when I look at it. There’s something very inviting about the bench..I just want to go sit on it. The brightness of the ground suggests soft sun to me. The ground in front of the bench looks like it’s got fallen leaves around it. Autumn Invitation?

Mary, I like the title, I think I am going to work on a color version and call it Autumn Invitation, thanks for the help.

    Hi Denise,
This wonderful image creates a much more reflective and contemplative mood in me. I would offer the title “Time and Memory”. Thanks for the intriguing image and post!

Hi Dave, That is a great title. The image seems very reflective to me too. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

The first thought that came to mind for me…”Heaven’s Crying Again”. The second thought was “Beyond the Veil”…listen to Eric Clapton’s “Tears from Heaven” and you’ll probably get the reference. *grin* The larger image of this is beautiful…might be cool to add a glow just around the memorial plaque. Darkening the concrete beneath the bench might help give the impression that it is wet from the rain…just thinking out loud! Great image, Denise!

John, There are so many good names and you have come up with a couple of them. I like that you were able to see the rain. Thank you kindly for your suggestions :)

I wouldn’t change a thing Denise.I think the lighter concrete below looks like a pool of water. I would name it Reflective. Another great processing job.

Hi Carole, I have added this one to your collection and should be sending the print in a couple of days, thanks again- I appreciate the continued support. Since you are the first one to buy the print I am going to name it “Reflective” :)

    “Sittin’ in the Rain”

I don’t know why such a great moody image makes me think of a musical comedy, but I can see Gene Kelly dancing through the image, exit stage left. For those too young to know — Singin’ in the Rain, 1952; starring, co-directed by and choreographed by Gene Kelly.

The rain is very convincing, and I like the placement of the bench in the image. However, I kept wondering if it would’ve been possible to move the bottom of the line of trees up or down without compromising the image. My conclusion … No. It might be near the middle but that’s just fine in this case.

One of the elements I REALLY like is the curve of the trees leading the viewer’s eyes to the bench. Not just serendipity, I bet.

Dennis, I am glad that you think the rain is convincing. I didn’t want it to be something that hit you over the head the minute you saw it but I did want it to be something you noticed. The curve of the trees are what drew me into the image initially but I think you know that :) Singin’ in the Rain-who doesn’t know that one! I might like to use that title for an image that I have in mind to create in the future. Thank you for commenting, I appreciate it as always.

P.S. When I came back and looked, again, I decided I wouldn’t want to move the bottom of the line of trees even if I could. It sweeps in nicely and leads right to the bench. Good stuff. This is a case in which breaking a rule isn’t merely acceptable. It makes the image even better.

Dennis, I agree with you completely :)

Kent, I would have never thought of that! Thank you for taking the time to comment :)
