Manhattan Skyline ~ Canon 5D with the Canon 24-105mm lens, tripod mounted, 8 seconds at f/6.3, ISO 100. I chose to leave this image a little on the dark side. I liked the “black look” of it. I did evict a large spotlight from one of the boats.

Last night Scott Vincent and I had our Manhattan Skyline Workshop in Weehawkin NJ. We had a very nice group of clients. Everyone was enthusiastic and willing to try new things. We played around a bit with different creative techniques in-camera and Scott and I were on hand to offer our tips on creating night time skyline images.

Manhattan Skyline ~ Canon 5D with the Canon 24-105mm lens, tripod mounted, 1/2 second at f/5.6, ISO 100. If you wanted to you could crop a slice off the top. I’m not fond of panos so I chose not to.

Manhattan Skyline ~ Canon 5D with the Canon 24-105mm lens, tripod mounted, 15 second exposure at f/9, ISO 100. I used a long exposure and moved my camera in a small circle during the exposure which created the light circles. We also did rectangles, zoom blurs etc..

Great set of images, Denise. I like what you did with the group photo. And both of the dark images are real attention-getters. The interplay of the reflections and the ripples in the first one adds a lot of interest.

Dennis, Thank you, I’m glad you like the dark images. They appealed to me and I was hoping they would to others :) .

  3. Hey Denise – Great shots – love the “helicopter” swirls of light. This is such a fun workshop. It’s so exciting to see everyone come away with fantastic, creative images. Everything was perfect about this night – the weather, the brilliant sunset, the moon, the cruise ships!! Great fun!!!!

Scott, You are such a nice person and a pleasure to be around. You are a great workshop leader and I look forward to our next one!! :) .

  4. Looks as if you guys had fun again. My fave is the first one with the reflections of the colored lights and the swirly water. And I like how you used your favorite pier, the one in the water foreground left.

Thanks Artie, it was another fun workshop with very nice clients. :)

The first one is a stunning image. The colors are rich and the buildings glitter.

Hi LensScapper, welcome to my blog. I appreciate your kind comment.
