I really love creating pleasing blurs in-camera. One thing that compliments a nice blur is color and the water color in this image makes it special to me. I used the Detail Extractor in Nik Color Efex 4 (use code BAA to save 15%) to nudge out a teeny bit more detail selectively in the ducks tail. I liked the way the catchlight in the eye looks like a line. This image reminds me of a painting

Another wonderful shot Denise. I like your blurs.
Thank you Edith

I’ve probably just spent 10 minutes studying the large version of this. It’s really quite incredible. I love what the movement did to the water. The duck has me mystified. It must be the use of Detail Extractor that made the white and black on the tail and wing bar so sharp looking. I never would’ve expected that would be possible when starting out with a blurred image.
I’ve only played around a little with in-camera blurs. That’s gotta change. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks Dennis, I have a nice blur of the hen too. It was a lot of fun creating them. Hope to see you posting some blurs soon!

Getting one that actually looks good for me has been a chore. I have not tried much. I tend to get happy accidents. This looks cool. Also, I like that I know a new name for this animal.
Thank you for taking the time to comment, it is much appreciated.

Denise, love this blur and the effect you achieved by using the ‘detail extractor.’ Beautiful work!
Thanks Andrew, much appreciated as always!

Hey Denise – Nice blur! I’m hoping to get lots of ducks when I go to Phoenix for a week staring on the 8th – will keep your image in mind after I get a few non-blurs!!
Hi Scott, have fun-wish I were going. Can’t wait to see some images!
