Flipped Images ~ Kaleidimals

I started creating “flipped” images after seeing some of Dave Phillip’s work a few years ago. I recently met Marilyn Gaizband through Ellen Anon at the Nature Visions Expo that Ellen and I gave our lectures at. After seeing some of Marilyn’s images in her book titled “Kaleidimals” that she published in partnership with the Audobon Society I was newly inspired. Below are a couple of examples that Marilyn wanted to share. Don’t you just love the life preservers :) .

Below are a couple of the images I created. It was great fun to do these and I hope I have inspired you to take a look at Marilyn’s book. The last image I created was done with a free Photoshop plug-in called Mehdi. Sorry not for Mac :)

  1. Hi Denise, this is very cool! I downloaded the plug in from the website, just a side note it only works in 32 bit. Thanks for the link!

Thanks Phyllis, I should have also mentioned that you need to be in 8Bit mode for the filter to work. Enjoy!

Thanks for showing us Marilyn Gaizband’s work as well as yours. Flipped images, I’m learning, can be quite amazing. I really like yours — all three versions.

Oh how totally awesome, Denise. Your second Black Skimmer remind me of a Batik print for some reason.

Hi Deb, Thanks so much, I love Batik art. I’m getting ready to get back out on the jetty for the season, I heard the Harlequins are back :)

Fantastic Denise. You always inspire me to try new things. Now if I can only find a plug in for my Mac.

Hi Edith, Thanks so much for the tweet too! Pixel Bender has a filter for Kaleidoscope images.

These are totally awesome, Denise! I was getting frustrated trying to use the filter, so I’m grateful to learn I need to be in 32 bit rather than 64 bit. Time to try again. I love your creativity!

Thank you Anne, whenever I download a plug-in I go to the site to see what bit mode -etc. is needed. I often forget to remind folks to do the same. You will also need to be working on an 8bit image. Enjoy!

Thanks Mary, I really loved the one Marilyn had in the show. I wonder if she won anything for it.
