Pixel Bender (PB) is a free Photoshop filter plug-in that you can download from Adobe Labs here. You can download it for CS4 but you will not have access to the “Oil Painter” filter which is the most popular filter unless you are using CS5. I always set up on a duplicate layer before running the program so that I can make adjustments to the layer. For the image above I adjusted the few sliders that are in the Pixel Bender program until I liked the way the image looked. Once back in Photoshop I added a touch of Unsharp mask selectively. This is an older image that I reworked. I really liked my initial capture and the way the horse’s eye peeked out from behind his hair.

That filter delivers such a delicate but effective result. Lovely image and a very good tight crop. I’ll be dialing in to Adobe for that one

Andy, Thank you very much for the kind words. You will like the program. I only use the oil painting filter but there are lots of others.

Beautiful close-up Denise. Love the processing. I have pixel bender but haven’t really used it. Will have to now.

Thanks, I like the program for animal images but have seen it work very well for other applications :)

Outstanding results from that plugin, Denise. The image detail is amazing. I’ll have to grab that one and give it a go somewhere along the line. Thanks for the tip. :-)

Denise fantastic. I absolutely love this image. The way you’ve filled the frame and the way the horse is peeking through is outstanding. The processing as usual is excellent.
