I love the way the feathers are parted on this Purple Sandpiper from the wind last week while I was shooting with Vincent Mistretta on the Barnegat Jetty. I shot this with the Canon 800mm lens that I have until Artie comes back from Antarctica :) Whoohooo!!

I love the way the colors and lines of the sandpiper echo those of the rock. That could be a camouflage thing, but it’s nice that it contributes to a great image.

Hi Dennis, Thank you, this guy was teed up on the rock and very difficult to see at first till he came out a little to check us out.

Nice photo Denise…I’ve always had trouble getting a good Purple Sandpiper image due to their environment. Happy and healthy New Year.

Richard, Happy New Year to you too. I look forward to meeting up at Nickerson again!

I love the tones that you captured in this image. The jetty has been calling me, but it will have to wait because its off to the Delaware shore for the New Year. We’ll see what Bombay has this time of year. Plus, there is a birding boat trip at Lewes/Cape Henlopen on New Years Day that I may go on. The selection is supposed to rival BJ. All best, Denise…

Rob, I think that the tones are something I especially like in this image too. Good luck on your quest sounds fun, let me know how you make out!

Really nice textual contrast Denise. The parting of the feathers accentuates the softness of the Sandpiper, and the similarity of color between bird and background makes the viewer want to look closer. Nicely done! Happy almost New Year to you!

Hi Debra, Thank you kindly. And an almost HNY to you too!!

  6. I consider this your top 1 Purple Sandpiper image :) . Do not drop the lens on the rocks or into the ocean :) .

Thanks Artie, I do like a few of my other Purple Sandpiper images but you might be right this one is special. I will do my best not to drop your lens on the rocks or into the ocean. Hey what about me aren’t you worried about me :) :)
