I just finished up a 3 day Workshop/Seminar that I did with Jeff Wendorff, David Middleton and Scott Rouse in Sarasota Florida for the Garden Club of America Photography Study Group. It was a great group of leaders and participants. Approximately 65 people attended the 3 day event which was held at the Hyatt in Sarasota. We did a morning photography shoot at Selby Gardens followed by individual lectures and slide shows from the 4 leaders along with lots of classroom instruction and smaller break-out groups. The schedule was non-stop but all of the garden club members were so enjoyable to be around and everything was top notch, especially the food
so it was a great time. I have included two images that I shot while at Selby Gardens assisting folks with their camera settings, exposures and f-stops. By the way I used an f/2.8 for both shots.

Hyatt in Sarasota ~ This is an in-camera blur captured at 1.0 sec. at f/2.8, handheld. By my settings you can tell that I was looking for a soft blur. This is a shot of a waterfall that is streaming down a sheet of glass and the flower pot and window are behind the glass. This was in the entrance way as you entered the hotel. I woke up early one morning and created this image. I used Alien Skin Snap Art to add the oil paint effect

Check out my workshop listings on Manfrotto’s News and Events page. Manfrotto was my sponsor for this event. A Joystick #222 Head by Manfrotto (a $145.00 value), the newer version of the one that I use to capture my flower images when not hand holding was given away to one lucky winner during the workshop. The Joystick gives you a fluid grip movement that will enable you to quickly and easily get into almost any position.

We like f/2.8. Helps guide the eye when looking at an image. Very nice! Glad to hear the workshop was a success. 65 attendees!
Thanks Don, I like f/2.8 too! The group was wonderful to work with.

Beautiful…love the soft feel of the fern in the lobby. My favorite has to be the amaryllis..just lovely.
Thanks Nancy, I appreciate the kind words. The Amaryllis stood out from the crowd to me too

I really like the lobby one for several reasons. The softness, the composition, and the contrast of the warm and cool colors. Beautiful job.
Thank you Dennis, I had a feeling you might like that one, Someday we’ll have to shoot together- it would be fun. I should have probably toned down the bright spot on the right edge but I didn’t have time this morning to fix it after I posted it.
