Lone Tree ~ Central Florida

I wanted to add a bit of a Serengeti look to this lone tree image that I captured in Central Florida last month. As I started to mess around with the image I got a little off track but liked the way it was going so I continued
. I originally shot a 3 exposure HDR image and blended them with Photomatix (save 15% by using the code BIRDSASART). However the sky had so much detail that it interfered with the look of the lone tree that I was originally after. So instead I used the one image that was over-exposed and brought it into Photoshop and I added a texture overlay with the use of Totally Rad’s Dirty Picture Plug-in. I know you are probably thinking that this background is a little busy too- but the color tones are different and the tree does stand out a lot more. I also added a tiny hint of fog with Nik Color Efex Pro 4(use code BAA to save 15%) to the finished image.
Awhile ago the Sierra Club in Florida contacted me because they wanted to use a few of my bird images for a Sierra Club video narrated by Ed Asner on Florida Power and Light’s planned new nuclear reactors at its Turkey Point power plant in Miami. I was happy to help out. Anyone wishing to see the soft release You Tube video can check out the link.

Lovely composition Denise. While the texture is a bit busy, I really think it works perfectly to get the Serengeti effect you were looking for.
Thanks Len!
I think it’s awesome Denise. I love what you’ve done here.
Thanks Edith!
Denise, I really like the way you processed the lone tree…I could see this as a large print
Congrats on the images in the video….that kind of stupidity scares the heck outta me.
Thanks so much Andrew!
Wow, I’ve missed looking for a few days and look what you’ve created! I like the filter on this one, it kind of crosses grudge, fog, old paper… nicely done friend.
This is really Arty and looks great. Unusual colouring for sure but the sense of swirling fog is very real. Well worth the experiment.
Debra and Andy, Thank you both kindly!
This is very cool. love the look of it very much so.
I think this is very effective – the blueish areas of the sky remind me of images from the hubble space telescope…
Thanks folks!
