One of my favorites…

One of the reasons I like to visit a place over and over again is because every time I go I see something different. At Eastern State Penitentiary I am able to capture new views and mini scenes every time I go. I continue to build my portfolio on the prison and I would like to share a few of my favorite images with you. I have a workshop coming up on September 8th. This workshop will be the first time that we will be in the private area photographing for two hours instead of one. Many new photo opportunities come to the surface when you have time to dig deep and we will be doing just that!!

Eastern State Penitentiary

Join me for 3 full hours of HDR photography at Eastern State Penitentiary. We will roll up our sleeves and explore the many photographic opportunities that ESP has to offer. We will have access to some of the private areas of Eastern State for a full two hours! Time will also be spent in the public areas where we will get to photograph the iconic red barber chair, Al Capone’s cell and much much more. If you have ever wanted to visit or revisit this amazing place then this is the workshop for you. I will instruct you on HDR photography (which will help you to capture the entire tonal range of the scene) as well as creatively composing some compelling images. A sturdy tripod is recommended for this workshop. Price includes all admission fees. A detailed PDF file will be sent upon registration with complete lens recommendations as well as clothing suggestion and over nite accommodations if needed.
DATE: Saturday September 8, 2012
TIME: 12:00noon – 3:00pm
COST: $250.00 inc. all entrance fees

  1. Great use of light and shadows throughout. Fourth image from the top, did you add the stained glass? I don’t remember seeing that. Same question for the reflection of the barber chair in the window?

One thing that I do remember is that it was a great learning opportunity for all and a lot of fun.

I’m the wrong side of the Ocean sadly but this looks like a tremendous opportunity. A wonderful set of images, Denise. I too am surprised to find intact stained glass above a doorway.

  3. Don Schroder says:

Very nice! I remember you setting up to take some of these images back on your March visit. The stained glass was a nice touch throughout many of the rooms.

  4. Len Saltiel says:

Wonderful images Denise. There are so many great shots, it is hard to pick my favorite. For those of you who are thinking about taking this workshop – sign up! I did in May and it was quite the experience.

  5. Terie says:

Denise, I signed up for this but was wondering if there is going to be a lot of people that could inhibit you from taking some shots like you have above? I would be driving from NC so just want to make sure I will have the best use of my time behind the camera to get some good shots. I am really excited about this shoot.

Terie, This is a small group workshop and we will all work together to make the most of our time. I have never shot in the private area feeling like I couldn’t get the shot because there were too many people. I am looking forward to meeting you and shooting with you.

  7. denise says:

Len, Thanks so much for the kind words. You have a great eye for composition and when working a place like ESP that really helps.

  8. Edith Levy says:

I love your ESP images Denise and although it didn’t work out for me this year I’m really hoping to sign up for one of your workshops next year.

  9. Theodore Thelin says:

Hi Denise, I just signed up. I have wanted to do this for a long time and finally have a date that I can make it. Looking forward to shooting with you again
