Camping the Ring Road in Iceland-2018

Iceland Camping Adventure with Denise Ippolito
August 6-17th, 2018 (12 days)
Price: $6800.00 per person based on double occupancy

Join me for what will be a unique adventure around the Ring Road in Iceland. Participants will see some of the amazing places that Iceland has to offer from it’s notorious fire and ice locations to its dramatic waterfalls and skies. There is no better way to immerse yourself into this otherworldly location than camping. We will not be roughing it too much, as we will be travelling in camper vans. I have reserved the camper vans for the group and they are included in the tour price. Each camper van is completely equipped with just about everything you will need for this amazing outdoor adventure. If you love nature and being outdoors as much as I do than this is the trip for you.

The beauty of this tour is that each participant will receive a detailed map complete with a description of each photographic POI and all scheduled stops. I have designed this trip to include built in flexibility, so that anyone wishing to explore the country a bit on their own can, but will still be able to meet up with the rest of the group at anytime along the way.

This is truly going to be an adventure in every sense of the word. No big hikes or physical requirements, however you want to be in decent shape to walk out to the waterfalls and get the most out of the trip.

I will share my favorite shooting techniques for each location as well as my compositional thoughts at each stop. Think of this as a photo-camping trip for adults at one of the most magical places on Earth! You will fall in love with Iceland… as I did. The natural beauty, the epic landscapes, the roaring waterfalls, the people, the culture, the clouds, the everything!!! It is a special place where the photo opps are endless, from Geothermals to Puffins, not to mention the Icelandic horses and churches!

We will be going in August which is one of the best times to visit–though it will not be peak time for Puffins. On my last trip in August I saw plenty of puffins on the cliffs and Arctic Terns were still flying about. This will not be a bird photography trip, we will be focusing mainly on landscapes, waterfalls, icebergs, geothermals and more. But, if the Puffins are there they will be close and a 100-400mm lens will be ample. We will be going all the way around the Ring Road which will afford us a ton of photo opps and lots and lots of variety.

Some Trip Highlights May Include:

Snæfellsnes Peninsula
Kirkjufellsfoss
Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon
Diamond Beach
Mt. Vestrahorn

Included in each rental is: upgraded insurance package, coffee press, gas stove, large, deep cooler that runs on a solar powered panel on top of the van, sink with running water, large water tank, linen, blankets and pillows, heating system, curtains, radio, all pots, pans, cutlery, dishes-basically everything you can think of! One night hotel stay at the end of the trip (based on double occupancy). Farewell dinner with the group. Price per person-$7600.00 US

Not Included:
Flights to Reykjavik (KEF), Iceland
All food and beverages (keep in mind that we will be shopping at grocery stores for most meals) gas, hot showers (approx $3.00 each) at campsites. Personal items, calling cards, etc. If it is not listed as included then it is not included.
Keep in mind that the Ring Road is approximately 827 miles, fuel will be expensive and you should budget for around $500 per vehicle. All vehicles are equipped with diesel engines, 6 speed manual transmission, they are very easy to operate, very fuel efficient, smooth to drive, and comfortable in every way. The Camper Vans are not equipped with bathrooms. Wifi is available at an additional charge for the duration of the trip.

The weather:
Though the weather often changes on a dime, Iceland enjoys a cool, temperate maritime climate with refreshing summers. Nights can get cold but the campers have heat, they just recommend that you do not leave the heat on all night. A sleeping bag is highly recommended if not mandatory.

Clothing:
It is important to dress in comfortable layers and to pack a wide variety of clothing to suit all kinds of weather changes, including rain gear. Footwear should have a Vibram sole and support for walking on dirt and rocky trails. Though this will not be a walking/hiking tour we will still need to walk out to some of the locations. Muck boots, Wellies or similar for Diamond Beach are recommended as you will most likely get your feet wet and the water is cold! This trip needs a minimum of 8 to run.

Gear:
A complete gear list will be supplied at sign up but expect to bring a variety of lenses.

*All itinerary and details are subject to change due to local conditions, weather, etc..

Hi Don, thank you, so many times folks go on tours and have to do what the group is doing-this offers loads of flexibility to really see Iceland and yet connect with the group when you want.

Such a photogenic country! Loved our trip there. If I were into camping, this would definitely be the trip to sign up for. Those are great stops. We didn’t get to the interior ones, but did go over to the western cliffs for the Puffins. Your pictures are dynamite—ice lagoon is my favorite place.

Hi Catherine, thanks so much! I appreciate your taking a look 🙂

    Hi Denise,

I am interested in the Iceland camping trip in August, 2018. My husband who is not into photography would like to come along to see the beautiful Iceland landscapes. Would 6900 USD cover both of us, or would he need to pay extra?

I have more questions but this one is the most important.

    Regards,
    Manju

    Hi Manju, email sent!

    Hi Denise,

Your images are beautiful and the Iceland camping trip in August 2018 sounds like an adventure. I too am wondering the pricing for myself (the photographer) and my husband (non-photographer).

    Kind regards,

    Laura

Hi Laura, Unfortunately there is no discount for non-photographers spouses.

    Thank you,
    Denise
