Mindshift Backpack

The Mindshift UltraLight™ Dual 36L is priced extremely well at $199.00. It is one of the most durable bags I have used at that size for that price. I like the way the bag is designed as it has a side panel that allows you to rotate the bag without taking it off to access your gear without getting your bag dirty or wet. It also features a removable insert that can be worn as a shoulder bag or beltpack. Mindshift is affiliated with Think Tank Brand.

My friend Michael bought one after I got mine and we have been putting it to the test. We both agree that the bag is comfortable on your back even with a tripod attached to the outside. I like the side zipped pocket on the belt strap and the pouch for my laptop. It has become one of our favorite go-to bags for when we need to carry a bit more than just a single lens or two. He took his to Death Valley and hiked out to one of the remote places and the bag was terrific as he never had to take it fully off of his back to access his gear as he changed out lenses.

I used it on a recent trip and could not believe how easy it was to pack in my suitcase, It folded flat and took up virtually no room in my suitcase. I did not use the removable camera compartment–I left it at home, I like to use my buffs and hats to wrap my gear so that they can perform double duties for me. It also comes with a raincover. If you want a bag that can get to your next location without taking up too much room and weight in your suitcase–give this one a try!

My Mindshift backpack has served me well transporting my 600mm and the rest of my camera gear to your workshops in Alaska for brown bears, Kenya and then the Falklands in a six month period. Thanks for those great workshops and for getting me into mindshift for carrying all of my gear. Somehow I missed your advice on Canon vs. Nikon, but that’s another story 🙂
