About five years ago I was treated to a wonderful cruise along Alaska’s Inside Passage. The Inside Passage is a water route between the Gulf of Alaska and Puget Sound. I was invited by Captain Ben Swanson to make the cruise on his luxury yacht. The yacht is 87ft in length with a perfect blend of old world charm and modern conveniences. The trip that I was on started and ended in Juneau Alaska, which made logistics pretty easy. In addition to photography we also kayaked, fished and did some shore excursions. But the best part was the anticipation of whales and sightings at every turn…
The crew was fantastic, personable and friendly. Captain Ben is not only very experienced but he is down to earth and genuine. Suzi was his deckhand and guide and she shares Ben’s passion for the sea and land. The chef was top notch and made sure that we ate like kings.
I do get sea sick and even in the Inside Passage, so I will bring a patch or motion sickness pills next time I go — if you’d be interested in joining me on one of these adventures let me know. I’m thinking about Summer 2022, if I get enough interest, I’ll charter the yacht.
