In a few days, I will be making my way back to Japan to meet up with our group. I have had the pleasure of co-leading a decade worth of workshops in Japan. I still thoroughly enjoy my photography time in Japan; the culture, the wildlife, the snow-all of it! But returning to a location over and over again presents some challenges…
On a first visit anywhere, I tend to shoot everything, fearful that I might miss something and not have another chance. On a second visit, I will spend a bit more time going after the images I have carefully planned out in my mind, well at least I try to. On subsequent visits, I tend to relax, no longer am I shooting from the hip trying to capture it all. I’m more concentrated on capturing what moves me. Return trips to the same areas often yield award winning and creative photographs.
After a decade of returning to the same location, it actually starts to get a bit harder. Sometimes coming up with unique perspectives and new ideas can be more difficult than you think. I never want my photos to just be repeats of the previous year. So, the bar is raised….
