In September of this year Paul McKenzie and I had a wonderful group (truly wonderful) of talented photographers join us for our yearly safari to the Maasai Mara. Sometimes, we combine Amboseli or Samburu with the Mara trip but this one was strictly the Mara. Since this was only the Mara, the opportunities for cats was amplified.
During our image review sessions, we noticed how many fantastic images were being captured by our clients. We had loads of photo opportunities with leopards, cheetahs, lions and servals, as well as some of the other usual safari subjects. But lets face it—the cats always win the show in the Mara!
Below are some of the images that were captured during the trip. Only 2 clients sent images in to share. That is not unusual as many never even share their photos on social media. Dennis described his safari as one of the most productive safaris of all time (he has been there 4 times). Kevin said “What a great trip, I really enjoyed it”. It didn’t hurt that we had one of the very best Wildebeest crossings while we were there! I’ll let their images speak for themselves…
The three images directly below were sent in by Kevin Watson, Kevin is an avid traveler and a top notch birder and photographer.

The next group of images were captured by Dennis Westover. He is a technical genius and knows his gear better than most! He is also a 3 time Purple Heart recipient (but he is so humble he is probably cringing that I told anyone). Not to mention a darn good photographer!
Photo copyright Dennis Westover. This Serval cat had the bluest eyes! Using an auto white balance really enhanced them in post (at least for me).
Photo copyright Dennis Westover. I love the sun rays shining down on the lone giraffe against the vast savannah.
Photo copyright Dennis Westover. This Serval cat was so special to see and photograph. I was happy to see that Denis included this shot as well!
