Before my first group arrived at Death Valley, my friend and I spent a couple of days at Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, CA. Both of us wanted to shoot a pano of the Sierra mountains with Mt. Whitney in the frame. We spent the first afternoon scouting and pinning locations before we headed out in the early morning to shoot. We had so-so weather, no clouds but a nice pinkish tone.
It was interesting to see the “notch” show up so well in the early morning light. The “notch” shows up as the shaded area to the right of Mt. Whitney. Trying to find a good shooting location is not as easy as it looks and both my friend and I want redemption so we will be back!
My first workshop in Death Valley is 2 days in, and the group could not be nicer. Long time friend/client Dave Klein is here from Minnesota along with a few of my Canadian friends -yippee! I will be meeting the group shortly for a Photoshop session but we had a fantastic morning on Zabriski Point!
