First of all I did receive the Sony A1 yesterday from B&H. I was surprised that my expedited order arrived within a day. And I received a whopping discount—yeah B&H, thank you!
My first impressions of the camera- it’s going to be a good fit once I get through the menu and customize it the way I want. I already got my Canon R5 exactly where I want it. The true test will be in Africa because I am only bringing my Sony bodies. This will force me to get my settings up to snuff.
So why both bodies. as a professional making a living with my photography-having and knowing each system intimately can only help me in the field with my clients. Also, as I said earlier, I don’t really want to purchase a new 600mm lens. Well, I do want to purchase a new 600mm lens because of weight, design, and handling but my pocketbook doesn’t want to. Plus, I want to see where Canon goes with their RF telephoto lenses.
My 2 favorite customizations:
I like to use single point focus as many of you know. I am not a fan of giving up control of my camera to my camera. BUT now with the excellent eye tracking on my new cameras, I want to be able to use it when I want and go back to old faithful when I want—but I need to do this in a hurry, so I set up one of my buttons on the back near the toggle button to switch between the two quickly and easily with the touch of a button. The other thing I did was set up the top right corner of my LCD screen to easily move my focus point with the touch of my finger. Life is good!
I have to get busy learning every feature on the A1 so that I am just as happy to have it in my hands as I am with the Canon body.
Again, both are outstanding cameras, and it is a good time to be a photographer. I wish that I had either one of these cameras when I first started out.
