I am really looking forward to my upcoming trip back to Death Valley. I miss the sand dunes and the abstract patterns that the dunes can produce. Random and ever-changing I am certain to never get the same image twice.
In some ways it reminds me of the sand dunes of the Namib Desert but on a much smaller scale. The flow of the lines, the cutting edges that define one dune from the next, the gradient shadow lines, early morning light with multiple color tones…it’s all so alluring.
I’m not always looking for dark shadows and contours that are exaggerated by the light; sometimes soft light can be just as effective to show lines and texture. It just depends on the scene and my position.
I am in the process of writing another eBook titled “ The Art of Abstracts” so I will be looking to create some images for that book. I’m only on page 70 but it should go quickly, so stay tuned for that!
I also just added another Death Valley NP workshop for February 2021, if you would like to join me and capture your own dune abstracts CLICK HERE.
