As promised, here are my black bear images from our outing to Anan Creek. It was our very last photo session of the tour, and it was raining pretty hard. We had intermittent breaks between the rain that allowed us some good opportunities. The viewing platform that we hiked out to overlooks a creek that is accented with moss covered rocks, fallen trees and ferns; it is a beautiful, lush rainforest. The black bears that we saw came out of small caves near the water’s edge. And some came from the top of the cliffs, where they meandered down to the water for a salmon snack, crossing over logs and rocks to get there. Of course, they posed for us along the way.
I am at the airport getting ready to board my flight home from Seattle. I will be home—or rather in NJ for about 5 hours before I head to Mongolia, if all goes well. It is unclear if I will have time to get home and repack or not… time will tell.
I will miss my time in Alaska, I always do. I have the fondest memories of Alaska, ever since my very first adventure there many years ago. It feels like an untouched wilderness ready to explore. Being in the Inside Passage and seeing the cruise industry just trample on it, I hope that Alaska’s pristine beauty can survive. I am planning a multi-location trip to Alaska for bears, glaciers, wilderness, and wildlife very soon…stay tuned.
All images were shot with the Sony A1 and my Sony 70-200mm lens.
