I just flew into Utah and have been scouting a few locations for future workshops. One of the most appealing things about Utah is the wide-open spaces and the many national parks, land management areas and such. Exploring seems like an endless journey and I treasure every moment that I have had so far.
I brought my Sony gear with me. My A1 is my main camera body and my 24-105mm lens has been my go-to lens but I also have my 70-200mm and my 16-35mm lenses with me. My tripod has been a chore as always to drag along but I have my MeFoto lightweight carbon travel tripod with me, so it hasn’t been that bad.
My friend Michael is with me, and I am glad because he enjoys driving and I do not! We are covering a lot of ground on this scouting trip and coffee has been a top priority.
For most of my scouting trips, I bring my single cup drip coffee maker or my small coffee press and water heater that plugs into the lighter, depending on if I have time to make it in the room or I have to prepare it on the road. I also bring my own blend of organic coffee to make me feel more at home while on the road. Doing this keeps me from wasting time looking for a good cup of coffee in the morning.
Since the weather would be cold, or at least we needed to be prepared for the cold I brought plenty of layers so that I could peel them off as the day warmed up. I also brought waterproof boots, pants, and jacket just in case. Hand warmers, gloves and an assortment of hats made it into my overstuffed suitcase. No matter where I go I tend to over pack, why is that...
Donna Bourdon is getting ready to lead her sold out Alaska Eagles in Winter trip. I know she’s anxious to get back there. Donna did such a great job co-leading my Charleston and Greece trips; I continue to get rave reviews about her. We’re talking reservations for her Greece Dalmatian pelican trip in 2023, Alaska Eagles in Winter 2023 and Charleston 2023 if anyone is interested shoot me an email.
I have two remaining spots for my Patagonia trip in May of 2022. I hired one of the best puma trackers in the area and we will be photographing some of the beautiful landscapes as well. My last trip to Patagonia was epic. I had many opportunities to photograph seven-week-old puma cubs and chances are good for another banner trip.
Paul and I have one spot open for our Japan in Winter tour after adding a second trip for 2023. We also have two spots open for our Kenya/Amboseli trip which has an optional add-on to a world class hide which allows for low angle and night photography if you are interested let me know.
The image above is an arch near Factory Butte with the butte in the window of the arch. I added the moon with glow as I felt the scene needed something in the right top.
