COME FLY WITH ME—Well, virtually that is… Take an African safari to the Maasai Mara National Reserve with me. During this adventure we will explore the many predators of this vast savanna wilderness; we will also see the tender moments these beast eaters share with their young. Throughout this virtual safari I’ll share my camera settings for each shot a well as what I was thinking as I captured each image. It will be just like you are there sitting next to me in the safari vehicle.

Whether you are thinking of going on a safari in the future or plan on returning to Africa or simply just want to get the feel of an African safari, this virtual trip is for you. I will help you better understand what you may expect to encounter on safari. Help you decide what gear to bring, how and what to pack, and so much more. So brush off your safari hat, I’ll be wearing mine and join me for this exciting new adventure!

Right or Left

Which orientation do you prefer? And please don’t use that old saying about how we read left to right…blah blah blah- What I want to know is which way looks better to your eye- which is more appealing to you? I’ll share my thoughts once we have a few responses.

Ride or Die

Ride or Die was originally a biker term meaning if you couldn't ride you'd rather die. It has now changed to mean anyone (wife, boyfriend, best friend), that you will “ride” ANY problems out with them or “die” trying and it is in this context that I write the following.

We use to travel to the ends of the earth seeking out the unknown; exploring new sights and scenes, gathering images. We would lean on each other during rough weather or low ebbs. Our ties of friendship, limitless. It was as if we were a team of dedicated allies willing to infiltrate any location in search of our desired photos. Many of those friendships born out of a need for artistic expression and love for nature.

I miss you all very much. I am looking forward to once again being able to freely travel the globe. Until then, I hope you can all hang in there and continue doing things that keep you well and happy. I will be starting a series titled “Come Fly With Me”-see the concept below. I hope you will join me on one of the many virtual trips I have planned.

Iceland On My Mind

I have been thinking about a return trip to Iceland for some alone time to hike and photograph. The wide open spaces and the otherworldly looks appeal to me. As I have been rummaging through my photos I thought I’d share a few of the less common scenics from Iceland that remind me of the peaceful feeling I am in search of.

"Hello The Camp"

“Hello the Camp” sounds like an expression out of an old western novel with no reality attached, however, back in the day when a rider came into a campsite unannounced he was often shot on site or at least could have been. The phrase ‘Hello the Camp” became a very common and well known hail (especially after dark) used throughout the west as settlers and mountaineers traversed the land. For some reason the above image reminds me of that phrase.

I was in Namibia when I captured these shots after spotting a kettle and then committee of vultures on a kill. At first I had no idea what the prey was until I saw the head of the zebra being picked up later by the lion. Anyway, my group and I were photographing the vultures as they pecked and picked at the prey and also each other. Vultures can be a great fun to photograph, there are often lots of spats with pushing and pulling, birds flying in and out, etc… jam-packed with action. As time went on, we noticed movement from the right and behind the tree line. It was a male lion coming back for the slim pickings he had left behind. Apparently, he didn’t want the vultures to have the remainder of his meal even though he had left it and moved on.
